Juhstin has done it again. In this incredible sequel to Prep (2025), we see not only next-generation immersion, but also a brand-new, moving story with a shocking twist at the end (as has become a staple of the prep franchise).

Graphically speaking, this game is years ahead of its predecessor, ditching the nostalgic but technically modest visual novel medium, for a 3d first-person open world experience. The world is immersive, has character, and contains plenty of easter eggs, and even a secret storyline that leads to a new ending. The striking yellow color theme and the artistic choice of low-poly assets helps Prep 2 further develop its visual identity past the strong foundations laid by its predecessor.

In the story, you once again play as Justin, the mysterious yet beloved protagonist returning from the first game. Initially tasked with preparing for an upcoming date, Justin must resist temptations and confront himself before reaching the shocking truth that lies behind this seemingly mundane goal. Prep 2's story deals heavily with themes of surreality, social pressure, addiction, capitalism, and the human condition. It may go over the heads of most laymen who attempt to play through the approximately 30-second long campaign (3 minutes for completionists), but among the media literate and enlightened, Prep 2 is sure to become an instant cult classic, undoubtedly making an appearance in future textbooks.

Unfortunately, it's not all "monkey[s] jumping on the bed," as Justin would say. The main quest is notably shorter than the previous game, likely due to budget cut, as well as the investment into the new technology and open world setting. However, Prep 2 more than makes up for it in nearly every other respect.

With mind-boggling graphics, a gripping story, and an immersive world that will make you both laugh and cry, Prep 2 is a 9/10 in my book. And at an economical $0, it's easy on the wallet as well. Truly peak fiction. I will be eagerly jumping on the toilet in anticipation until the arrival of Prep 3.
